Pint-Sized Spartacus
(Gravelvoice, 1997)
CHARLES GOCHER
Charles Gocher solo project recorded over the course of a year with the help of Scott Colburn, Elaine DiFalco, Terry Nelson, Mike Bisio, Eyvind Kang, Amy Denio, Michael and Cynda.
This is more radio drama than music, a concept album loosely based on the film Spartacus but with the added twists of mental problems, Lucky Luciano, and the white slave trade in India.
"Each piece seems to invoke some strange spirit, often with creepy mumbled but comprehensible English vocals. There are some fine free-flowing jazz moments for a trio of violin, contrabass and drums, as well as an ongoing story that will take some time to figure out."
